Windy City Gridiron: For Chicago Bears Fans has new update
14 hours ago Film study: New Bears CB Reddy Steward an intelligent, scrappy UDFA
Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports WCG’s lead draft analyst looks at the Bears’ newest cornerback UDFA signing. The Chicago Bears have signed Troy cornerback Reddy Steward as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. The corner with the second-best PFF career grade at his position in the 2024 class, Steward is a two-time first-team All-Sun Belt cornerback with 7 interceptions, 22 pass deflections and two pick-6s over his last two seasons. He most notably finished the 2022 season with a 90.7 PFF grade: the third-highest of all FBS cornerbacks that year. Though he measured on the smaller side leading up to the draft, it’s his football IQ and competitive nature that stands out the most about him on tape. Given that Chicago has just 7 cornerbacks on its roster currently, Steward has the chance to push for a practice squad role, if not a 53-man roster spot. In getting to interview Steward leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, I also found out he recently became an uncle and enjoys watching movies and basketball in his free time. I took to Steward’s tape to break down what he brings to the table for the Bears as an undrafted free agent signing. THREAD: The #Bears signed one of the 2024 draft’s most productive corners as a UDFA in Troy CB Reddy Steward.— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 With 7 INTs and 22 PBUs in the last two years, Steward has tremendous ball production. He recognizes route concepts well and is aggressive in timing when he jumps the route to make a play on the ball. #Bears pic.twitter.com/P2UaUj7zwf— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Steward has the 2nd-highest career PFF grade of any CB in this class. His spatial awareness in coverage, his playmaking mentality and fluidity stand out when you watch him on tape. #Bears pic.twitter.com/FPVn1cbVoP— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Steward is a small CB at 5-foot-11 and 176 pounds, but don’t let that fool you: he fights hard against the run.In a time where many CBs are passive in run support, Steward has a high motor and charges hard downhill. #Bears pic.twitter.com/0X2dIHxZjZ— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 With the cornerbacks the #Bears have on their roster, Reddy Steward faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. However, he makes a lot of sense as a practice squad add. They only roster 7 CBs right now — Steward has a real chance to compete for a spot.— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024
Windy City Gridiron: For Chicago Bears Fans has new update
16 hours ago Film study: New Bears OL Theo Benedet an intriguing UDFA
Bob Frid/UBC Athletics WCG’s lead draft analyst shares his breakdown of the Bears’ undrafted offensive lineman from Canada. The Bears have signed British Columbia offensive lineman Theo Benedet as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft. Though it was his teammate Giovanni Manu — who ended up going in the fourth round to the Lions — who stole the headlines in recent weeks, it was Benedet who stepped into the NFL spotlight first. He earned an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl in 2023 and performed quite admirably, but he opted to stay at university for another season. Benedet accepted an invite to the College Gridiron Showcase this pre-draft process, so he was still involved in the all-star game circuit. He comes to the NFL with two J.P. Metras Awards, a trophy given out to the best down lineman in U Sports, which is the Canadian college athletic conference. As one of the most accomplished Canadian prospects in recent memory, it makes sense he received an NFL opportunity. I took to the tape to break down Benedet’s game and what he brings to the Bears. THREAD: The #Bears just signed a dominant Canadian OL as a UDFA in British Columbia’s Theo Benedet.— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Benedet dominated the Canadian college circuit with his play strength and nasty demeanor. When he gets his hands on you, he’s looking to bury you into the dirt. #Bears pic.twitter.com/WiUu6oSn7a— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Though Benedet played RT at university, I think he’s a guard at the next level. He’s an effective puller with good body control blocking on the move and a road-paver mentality in the run game. #Bears pic.twitter.com/QZokEBKlyD— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Benedet played at the Shrine Bowl last year but went back to UBC for another season in college. Here he is against 2023 sixth-round Scott Matlock. He more than held his own athletically and strength-wise against current NFLers. #Bears pic.twitter.com/d0yn5JcQnN— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Benedet is a two-time winner of the J.P. Metras Trophy, which is given to the best down lineman in U Sports (Canada college FB).Past winners also include David Onyemata, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, and Israel Idonije. #Bears pic.twitter.com/qddz0d2R4k— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 Here’s Theo Benedet’s RAS score. Fantastic explosiveness, good agility and nice speed. He has shorter arms for a tackle, so while I have him ranked as a guard, he offers some OL versatility. #Bears pic.twitter.com/f2LuegegAe— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024 I was worried Theo Benedet would fly under the radar despite a strong Shrine Bowl last year, great testing and an impressive resume.I had a fringe draftable grade on him, so I’m not surprised he got snagged up quickly. Fun add for the #Bears in UDFA.— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) April 28, 2024
